Providing Compassionate Pet Care Since 1979

Services

Bowman Veterinary Hospital is dedicated to maintaining the health and happiness of your animal companion. Like people, dogs and cats are living longer. We work closely with you to make a significant difference in the life of your companion as he or she ages. Here is a sampling of the range of services that we offer:
Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) - Acupuncture and Herbs
TCVM focuses on preventive health care and balance.  Veterinary acupuncture, herbs, and dietary recommendations offer precise treatments to help your pet achieve health and well-being.  TCVM aims to support your pet, ameliorate side effects of other medications, speed healing, and generally increase your pet's quality of life.
Internal Medicine

For Chronic, Complex, and Complicated Conditions

Veterinary internal medicine is a broad specialty that involves the internal body systems of your pet. A specialist, called an internist, works to diagnose and treat challenging diseases that affect organs or bodily systems including: respiratory, endocrinology, renal (kidney), hematology (blood), gastroenterology, cardiology, autoimmune diseases, and cancer, among others.

Your pet may benefit from a referral to an internal medicine specialist for the following conditions:

  • Anemia or other bleeding disorders
  • Coughing or other respiratory problems
  • Endocrine diseases (diabetes, Cushing’s disease, thyroid problems)
  • Infectious diseases (including bacterial, fungal and tick-borne diseases)
  • Kidney or bladder conditions
  • Liver disease
  • Prolonged vomiting or diarrhea
  • Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
  • And, patients with neurologic, cardiovascular or cancerous diseases
.
Surgery
Bowman Veterinary Hospital utilizes advanced monitoring equipment and anesthestic protocols for all of our surgery patients. We believe in the latest in pain control techniques, and will use a combination of presurgical drugs, local anesthetics, and IV medications to control surgical pain. We perform routine procedures such as spays, neuters, and laceration repairs. Our doctors are also skilled at more advanced surgeries such as Caesarian sections, limb amputations, gastropexy (tacking the stomach to the abdominal wall), foreign body removal, cystotomy (bladder stone removal), splenectomy, intestinal resection, and orthopedic procedures.
Diagnostic Laboratory
Our state of the art in-house laboratory has the capability to perform screening tests on your pet, whether it is a wellness visit or an emergency. Most tests can be completed within a half hour. The majority of our lab tests are sent to an off-site facility, Idexx Laboratories. Idexx is a leader in the veterinary industry. Send-out tests often give us more detailed information than in-house tests, and results are typically back the following day.
Digital Full-Body X-Ray
Bowman Veterinary Hospital offers full body digital x-ray. Traditional x-rays require the use of film, film trays, a processor, and a dark room. With digital x-ray, the image is captured within seconds on a computer. The image quality is superior, allowing us to see abnormalities that might not be detected on a traditional x-ray. The computer system also allows us to view the images on any computer in the hospital, including the exam rooms. All our radiographs are evaluated by our doctors and board-certified veterinary radiologists.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is used to examine soft tissue and internal organs in greater detail than x-rays allow. It is non-invasive and very safe. We use ultrasound to determine pregnancy, collect sterile urine samples, and evaluate chest and abdominal organs for disease.
Dentistry & Digital Dental X-Ray
We offer advanced dental care using state of the art equipment similar to that used in human dental practices. All dental patients undergo general anesthesia while their vital signs are monitored electronically. They are kept on a warmed table and receive IV fluids to help support their cardiovascular system while under anesthesia. We utilize a human grade ultrasonic scaler to clean their teeth. Following cleaning, we apply polish with a low-speed handpiece. A combination water/air handpiece is used to flush and clean the mouth. Finally, a high-speed drill is available should we need to extract any teeth. Extractions are a surgical procedure involving careful manipulation and suturing of gum tissue, local anesthetics, hemostatic (stops bleeding) agents, antibiotics, and synthetic bone grafting material, if needed. We use a digital dental x-ray machine to look for disease below the gum line. Digital x-rays require less time than conventional x-rays, meaning your pet spends less time under anesthesia. Digital x-rays allow us to see abscesses, fractures, and other disease processes that are not always apparent above the gum line. They also allow your veterinarian to see any tooth root abnormalities that can complicate a tooth extraction, and to ensure that all root fragments were properly removed following an extraction. Full mouth x-rays give us a wonderful reference for future cleanings.
Nutrition
Bowman Veterinary Hospital offers a full line of prescription pet foods for a variety of medical conditions including kidney disease, obesity, diabetes, urinary tract disease, pancreatitis, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and allergies. Wellness diets for all life stages are also available.
Please call or contact us through our website with any questions.
Cold Laser Therapy
Cold laser therapy is a noninvasive procedure that uses light to stimulate cell regeneration and increase blood circulation.  Laser therapy can treat acute and chronic injuries, sprains and strains, arthritis, swelling due to back disc problems, and muscular skeletal abnormalities.  It also helps to regenerate nerve tissue after surgery.
