There are ways around feeling like this, and with a quick and easy approach to Halloween pet safety, pets and people alike can enjoy the spookiest time of the year together.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Best Defense<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Statistics show that this time of year is one of the most dangerous for pets. Be sure that your pet is equipped with their identification to defend against separation or loss. A secure collar, ID tags, and even reflective gear go a long way toward safeguarding.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Likewise, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bowmanvet.com\/blog\/safe-and-sound-the-importance-of-pet-microchipping\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your pet&#8217;s microchip<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is critical. If your contact information has changed since you first registered it, please update it with the chip\u2019s manufacturer! Be sure that your pet cannot access the treat bowl, trick or treat bags, and any dropped goodies along the way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking of dropped goodies, plastic or foil wrappers can cause serious problems in the GI tract. To avoid a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bowmanvet.com\/blog\/keeping-pets-safe-during-emergencies\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pet emergency<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> related to Halloween candy, eliminate your pet\u2019s access to wrappers at home or at events.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bowmanvet.com\/blog\/xyli-what-pets-and-dangers-of-xylitol\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Xylitol poisoning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> increases around Halloween due to the artificially sweetened candies and baked goods.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State of Mind<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many pets suffer through high levels of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bowmanvet.com\/2019\/06\/05\/enough-is-enough-dealing-with-pet-anxiety\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">anxiet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bowmanvet.com\/blog\/enough-is-enough-dealing-with-pet-anxiety\/\">y<\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bowmanvet.com\/2019\/06\/05\/enough-is-enough-dealing-with-pet-anxiety\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or stress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> related to changes in routine, heightened traffic at the front door, and frightening decor. If your pet is crate trained, they may benefit from hanging out in their own \u201croom\u201d until the Halloween action dies down.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alternatively, encourage them to stay in a back room with all of their creature comforts. Fresh water, treats, and toys are great distractions.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Costumes and Halloween Pet Safety<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pet costumes can be incredibly cute, but they can also be highly restrictive and irritating to animals. Be sure that your pet can see, breath and move without any problems.
